Thanks all for comments. I did take the shot from other angles, but liked this one best for displaying all the flowerhead details and subtle blue shades. I resized to ensure that the entire shot was on the screen without having to scroll. Perhaps this was a mistake if detail was lost at the smaller size.

The photo shows a single flower head containing the large male florets surrounding the sterile female florets in the center. The intense blue is the result of an acidic soil.

Thanks again.

Stunning photo. I find it very hard to suggest anything you could have done to improve this shot. IMF

I don't know what to make of this, sometimes I like the look of it, other times I'm not so sure... I'd love to know what it is first, but then I can't help think that it would have been a little nicer if the leaves (or, er, petals...?) were all a bit more uniformly flat.

Perhaps that woud just turn it into a standard library catalogue shot with little life... I dunno, I do like the background though, good choice.

A lovely overal photo with good colour balance. I felt sure you had set this one up or had placed a black card behind the flowers.

Gorgeous head of hydrangea plant. I like that you have a black background.

Have come back to this picture several times as I thought at first the colour was a little too subdued but decided I was wrong, the colours are so delicate they are a credit to you as the photographer and Fuji for it's ability to capture so well these particular shades.
In my top ten.

A nice looking flower - and certainly colourful. I like it!

I like the way a number of people have picked up the word unadulterated. Not too sure what I meant by that myself if truth be told!

All in all, a nice entry that is in my favs but just fell short of top 10

As flower shots go, I love them on black backgrounds. Composition is a tad bland for me, did you shoot any diffent angles of this? Overall a good entry.

I love the various tones of color in the blue petals. The black background makes the flower almost three dimensional. Very sharp and well framed.

Very precise composition and wonderful color. I especially like the faint hint of purple near the edges of some of the petals. You could almost smell these (if they had a smell...).

Very nice! Clean edges...can't immediately see the post work. I like the arrangement of the blooms too. Do they occur naturally like that? I've never had one nor seen one up close.

Probably one of the best flower shots. But it's still early in the 'menting... Why didn't ypu use the full 800 pixels allowed? Would have shown more detail.
